Carmel Allen joins GDR as Editor-in-Chief

Carmel is a highly experienced editor and award-winning journalist who spent 15 years in print and online publishing before embarking on a successful retail career holding company director positions at both Heal’s and The Conran Shop.

Her first editorial position was working with Lucia van der Post at the Financial Times where she was part of the launch team of the acclaimed How To Spend It magazine. Subsequently she moved to Conde Nast and became Health & Beauty Editor of British Vogue and Beauty Director of Tatler. After a stint in New York as Associate Editor on Helena Christensen’s NYLON magazine she worked for Time Warner Inc at In Style and as Editor of the lifestyle interiors magazine Livingetc.

In 2004 she launched the charity, Kiss It Better for children with cancer, in conjunction with Great Ormond Street Hospital and Estee Lauder Companies. It has raised over £2million in funds and annually achieves in excess of £28million worth of press coverage.

As Marketing Communications Director of Heal’s she was also responsible for the company’s bicentenary celebrations and edited the book, Heal’s, 200 Years of Design and Inspiration, which was highly commended by The Creative Review.

Before joining GDR Creative Intelligence she was Creative & Marketing Director of The Conran Shop.
